Morris Blackman (American, b 1930) is an American artist who lives and works in Philadelphia PA. He graduated from The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA) in 1959, where he twice received the Cresson European Traveling Scholarship as well as three Mural Prizes, the Lux Graphic Prize and the Figure Drawing Prize. Blackman had one-man shows at PAFA and DeMena Gallery NY as well as participating in group shows at Reese Palley Gallery NJ, Fontana Gallery PA, Studio 7 NJ, Carlsson Gallery NY and Margaret Locks Gallery PA. He was a member of the Graphic Sketch Club as well as a teacher at the Philadelphia Art Museum and the Fleisher Art Memorial. His works are in many private collections in Philadelphia as well as PAFA. When Morris Blackman moved to Queen Village in Philadelphia in 1978, he purchased a former stable and turned it into his art studio and living quarters. His three dimensional mixed-media paintings feature primary colors and incorporate themes from his travels and life experiences. Morris describes his role as an artist is to show the world the way that he experiences and feels it, not to simply paint a pretty picture. His list of teaching appointments include Fleisher Art Memorial, University of the Arts, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, and the University of Pennsylvania.
