Walter Baum was one of the most prolific of the Pennsylvania Impressionists. Winter Delaware River is a large composition by the Bucks County artist. The oil on canvas measures 32 x 40 and is signed at lower right. Walter Baum was born in Sellersville in 1884. Widely celebrated for his Impressionist snow scenes in the tradition of Edward Redfield and Walter Schofield, his style was bold and painterly. Many of his canvases were painted using the plein-air style.
