John Dull
(Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 1859 - 1949)

John Dull was born in Philadelphia in 1859. He was an active member of the Philadelphia Sketch Club and studied under Thomas Eakins at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. Although he was a painter, he became known primarily for his work in architecture. For many years, he was an architectural design instructor at Drexel Institute. He and Arthur Truscott are credited with founding the Beaux-Arts style atelier architectural department at the Institute.

In 1893, he started his own architectural firm that became Dull & Coates. He is known for his Beaux Arts style of design.

John Dull died in Philadelphia in 1949.
