Robert Spencer
City's Edge ca. 1917-1918
City's Edge is a lovely painting by Robert Spencer. Unlike many of his contemporaries in the New Hope School, Spencer rarely painted a strict landscape, instead, he was drawn towards the area's old mills, emerging industrial sites or local tenement houses. Here we see a refinery or factory nestled in a lovely landscape. The painting, circa 1917-1918, is in excellent condition and has been cleaned and varnished. It is in a reproduction frame and is signed at lower left, "Robt. Spencer". It is an oil on canvas.
