Walter Elmer Schofield
House with Landscape
Through-out his career, Schofield traveled back-and-forth, typically on a semi-annual basis, from Europe to Bucks County Pennsylvania and his wonderful landscapes reflects those venues. Perhaps ironically, he was born in Pennsylvania but died in England. His early training was at the prestigious Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts under Thomas Anshtz. Mr. Schofield became one of the pre-eminent members of the Bucks County Circle of painters of the early part of the 20th century. Other members of the group included Edward Redfield, William Lathrop, Robert Spence, Charles Rosen and Daniel Garber. His paintings have been proudly displayed in exhibits at the Concoran Gallery of Washington, DC, Albright Art Gallery of Buffalo, Carnegie Institute of Pittsburgh, City Art Museum of St.Louis, Cincinnati Museum, Macbeth Gallery of NYC, Woodmere Art Gallery of Philadelphia, PAFA, Brandywine Museum and the Michener Museum.
